Reports From The Runway: Tribal Inspired

NARS Backstage at Thakoon for Fall 2011

NARS, the cosmetic company founded by makeup artist Francois Nars, created the look for the Thakoon Fall 2011 runway show yesterday. Lead makeup artist Diane Kendal created a tribal look to compliment Thakoon’s Fall fashion. The bold statement? Red, and on the eyes, no less!

INSPIRATION: “The collection draws inspiration from the opulence of the Rococo period and the style of the Masai tribe in Africa,” said designer Thakoon Panichgul. “There are a lot of primary colors, but also gorgeous marabou feathers, so we wanted to create a balance to everything to ensure it was really believable. We’ve always done fresh, pretty, natural, and it was time for a strong makeup look.”

LOOK: “With Thakoon’s references to this idea of tribal opulence, I felt that if we were going to do “color” it would have to be focused on the eye with one central color theme, and nothing else. There was a lot of youth in the group of models, so we wanted to keep the look very fresh. Red was a natural choice, complimenting the use of color throughout the collection.”

While red eye shadow may be a look better left for the runway, we do love the tribal vibe! It’s a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon and while Thakoon is embracing it for fall, we have some great handbags to help you embrace it now!
